Peloponnese Region approves infrastructure and social welfare funding

The Peloponnese Regional Committee has approved several new funding packages aimed at infrastructure and social welfare.

A 6.1 million euro package has been allocated for road network maintenance and flood protection. This includes 1 million euros for the Astros-Leonidio provincial road, 1.5 million euros for the Tripoli-Karkala national road, and 1.2 million euros for improvements to the 9th National Road near Kyparissia. Additionally, 700,000 euros are designated for road maintenance in Argolis, and 1.1 million euros for roadworks in Corinth, alongside 600,000 euros for stream restoration projects in the Corinthia region.

Separately, Regional Governor Dimitris Ptochou has activated a 4 million euro initiative to combat child poverty. Funded by the European Social Fund+ under the ‘Peloponnese’ 2021–2027 Program, the project aims to support 1,000 children facing social and economic vulnerability. The program focuses on creating local protection networks through cooperation between municipalities, schools, and health services. It provides specialized support such as psychological counseling, speech therapy, educational assistance, and vouchers for creative or athletic activities, with a specific emphasis on children with disabilities, mental health challenges, or migrant backgrounds.
