Peloponnese Region digitizes soil data for agricultural development

The Peloponnese Region is implementing a project to digitize soil studies and maps to support the primary sector and sustainable natural resource management. The initiative involves converting decades of historical soil maps and scientific studies into an organized geospatial database and developing modern web applications for data visualization.

The project is being executed by the GIS Research Unit of the Agricultural University of Athens, under the scientific supervision of Professor Dimitris Kalyvas. The digitized data, which includes information on soil units, sampling locations, field work, and laboratory analyses, will be integrated into the Greek Soil Data Hub to ensure open access to valuable information.

Peloponnese Governor Dimitris Ptsochos stated that the initiative aims to provide farmers with better data and modern tools, transforming scientific knowledge into practical instruments for agricultural production and informed decision-making.
