Peloponnese Region Funds Child Support, Faces Rock Lighting Pushback

The Peloponnese regional government allocated €4,115,508 from the EU "Peloponnese 2021‑2027" programme to expand preschool education and provide creative‑occupation services for children, adolescents and people with disabilities for the 2026‑2027 cycle. The decision, signed by Regional Governor Dim. Ptocho and Deputy Governor for Social Solidarity Maria Economakou, emphasised concrete support for families and the role of community centres.

The same authority also approved a €220,000 budget to illuminate the Leontidios rock (also known as Kokkinobrachou) in a NATURA 2000 protected area (GR2520005). The Hellenic Ornithological Society criticised the plan, describing it as a "bad idea" that could disrupt the rock’s ecosystem, including birds, bats, rare flora and other species.
