Pemex detects seven illegal pipeline taps in Hidalgo
Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has identified seven clandestine taps used for hydrocarbon theft across various points in Hidalgo. During a surveillance operation on September 30, specialized personnel detected illegal connections, excavations, and accessories installed on the Tuxpan-Tula, Tuxpan-Azcapotzalco, and Tula-Salamanca pipelines. The findings included irregular excavations in tunnels and connections involving valves and hoses in municipalities such as Cuautepec de Hinojosa, Santiago Tulantepec, and Epazoyucan.
In a separate incident, the Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina) and Pemex are coordinating to control a hydrocarbon leak in the Ciénega de Progreso area. The spill, which may have resulted from deteriorated pipelines, prompted naval personnel to deploy oleophilic barriers to contain the spread and mitigate environmental impact.
