Penela road (IC3) reopens partially after storm damage
Portugal’s main road IC3 between Penela and Condeixa‑a‑Nova, closed since February because of damage caused by Storm Kristin, will reopen partially on Friday 10 July at 10 a.m. The reopening will allow traffic on a single lane, with alternating flow regulated by traffic lights and reduced speed limits. In the first phase only light vehicles and emergency services will be permitted.
Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) said technical and safety studies confirmed the identified anomaly on the road is stable, and the entity will continue to monitor conditions and carry out ponctual interventions. Penela’s mayor, Eduardo Nogueira dos Santos, welcomed the decision as “a long‑awaited positive one” but stressed that the solution is provisional, heavy‑vehicle traffic remains blocked and a permanent alternative route is still required.
