PennDOT announces road and bridge maintenance closures
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced several road and bridge maintenance projects across the state, leading to various lane closures and traffic restrictions.
In Center City, sections of I-76 and Schuylkill Avenue will close in both directions from Friday night at 9 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. to facilitate construction on the Market Street Bridge. This $148.9 million project, which aims to repair and refurbish bridges over the Schuylkill River, is expected to continue through 2029. During the weekend closures, pedestrians and cyclists will also lose access to the area between 23rd and 30th streets.
In Mifflin and Juniata counties, maintenance is scheduled for the week of October 12. Key works include bridge maintenance on Route 322, shoulder maintenance on Route 103 and Furnace Road, and side dozing on Route 322. Single-lane closures and flaggers will be utilized in several locations, including Wakefield Road and Swailes Road, to manage traffic during these operations.
