Pennsylvania advances major road and bridge infrastructure projects
Pennsylvania is advancing significant roadway and bridge infrastructure projects through new funding and scheduled maintenance. The state has announced $250 million in the 2026-27 budget to fund 79 Rapid Deployment projects statewide, aimed at reducing long-term maintenance costs and preventing road deterioration. An additional $775 million will be released from the Motor License Fund over the next 18 months for state-owned road repairs, supplementing an anticipated $4 billion investment for projects currently out to bid.
Specific local maintenance is also scheduled on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County from September 28 through October 1, 2026. PennDOT crews will conduct crack sealing, bridge repairs, and litter removal. These operations will result in daytime lane restrictions on both northbound and southbound sides of the interstate between various exits in Foster, Frailey, Delano, and Kline townships.
Other active projects in Pennsylvania include paving on Route 77 in Crawford County, work on U.S. 40 in Wharton Township, and comprehensive repairs on Route 378 in Bethlehem, which include bridge deck repairs and guide rail upgrades.
