Pennsylvania officer charged with manslaughter in college student shooting

A Pennsylvania police officer has been charged with voluntary manslaughter following the fatal shooting of 22-year-old college student Glenn “Bubba” Pysher IV. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele announced Tuesday that Upper Pottsgrove Police Corporal Sean Farrell, 58, faces the charge in connection with the August 23 incident.

The shooting occurred after Pysher arrived at the wrong residence in a wooded area, mistakenly believing he had reached a friend's house following a birthday celebration. The occupants of the home called 911 to report an attempted break-in. According to the District Attorney’s Office, an investigation involving body-worn camera footage led to the charges, with prosecutors asserting that Farrell had “less-than-lethal options” and did not need to use deadly force.

Pysher’s family maintains that he was unarmed and was simply waiting for friends to pick him up. They noted he was carrying only a cellphone and a backpack at the time of the encounter.
