Pentagon confirms influencer Jennica Pounds is a government employee

The Department of Defense has confirmed that Jennica Pounds, a conservative online personality known as ‘DataRepublican’, has been serving as a Special Government Employee since July 2026.

Pounds, who gained prominence for analyzing federal spending and government grants, did not disclose her government affiliation to her audience. The matter became public following an online dispute between Pounds and State Department Undersecretary Sarah Rogers. During the exchange, Pounds accused Rogers of attempting to ‘entrap’ her after Rogers provided access to Biden-era documents regarding Cuba in hopes of an exclusive report. Pounds expressed concerns that the interaction was a setup to leak sensitive information.

Pounds previously held credentials for the Pentagon press corps, which she stated expired in June, prior to her July start date with the Department of Defense. While the lack of disclosure has sparked a controversy regarding media ethics and transparency, there is currently no public evidence that Pounds violated federal law or simultaneously held active press credentials while employed by the Pentagon.
