People's Party seeks Basque PNV and Valencian allies for upcoming coalition talks

The People's Party (PP) has signaled a shift in its regional alliance strategy. In an interview, PP's Basque leader Javier de Andrés said the party now views the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) on the same level as Catalonia's ERC as a potential partner in a future government, emphasizing that dialogue with the national PP has been resolved despite "cold" relations. De Andrés also described Vox as a "lesser evil" and warned that the PNV would not abandon the current socialist government, calling such a move "suicide" for the Basque party.

At the same time, PP national leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo's campaign in the Valencian Community has led regional PP officials to postpone decisions on the candidate for the Generalitat. The party's regional branch, PP Genoa, has put the selection process on hold after the summer, focusing instead on preparing for possible national elections. Local figures such as Valencia mayor María José Catalá and Alicante mayor Luis Barcala have been highlighted, but no definitive candidate has been confirmed, leaving the Valencian PP in a state of waiting.
