Series of Theft and Scam Incidents Reported Across German Towns and Swiss Canton

Police in several German municipalities reported a range of thefts and scams. In the Westerwaldkreis region, unknown individuals stole grave crosses, lanterns and vases from cemeteries in Enspel and Kaden between 26‑27 June. In Burgwedel, authorities recorded the theft of a children's bicycle, a small motorbike and tools from a construction container, with total damages estimated at over €8,600. In Wiesbaden, a 23‑year‑old was assaulted and a catalytic converter was stolen from a parked Opel Astra. In Trier, a man posing as a city‑utility employee entered an apartment and, with an accomplice, stole jewelry. A 13‑year‑old in Herten thwarted two teenage intruders attempting to break into a house. In Gladbeck, a fraudster pretended to be a plumber, entered a senior couple’s flat and searched for valuables. Two women in Iserlohn claimed to be utility workers before stealing documents from a senior’s apartment. In Velbert (Germany) and Basel‑Landschaft (Switzerland), separate incidents involved a pepper‑spray attack on a fish‑hunter and a telephone fraud that led a senior to lose over one million Swiss francs, respectively. Police in each location are seeking witnesses and urging the public not to grant unscheduled access to strangers.

Authorities across the affected areas advise residents to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a service worker before allowing entry and to report suspicious activities promptly.
