Colombia security: President de la Espriella reports major crime reductions
Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has reported significant shifts in national security during his first 30 days in office. Official figures indicate that kidnapping has decreased by 79%, extortion by 62%, and massacres by 58% compared to the same period in 2025.
In response to threats from the 'Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra Nevada', the government militarized Santa Marta and the Caribbean coast with 2,500 personnel, resulting in 23 arrests. Additionally, 'Operation Iron' in Cali deployed over 1,200 officers, dismantling seven criminal structures and leading to 85 arrests.
