Perama Municipality announces birth subsidy as Thessaly farmers seek frost compensation

In Perama, Mayor Giannis Lagoudakos has announced a new municipal initiative to provide a 1,000 euro subsidy for every newborn child. The measure, intended to support young families and address demographic challenges, is planned for the 2027 budget and will be funded through the municipality's own resources. The subsidy applies to all new births among registered citizens of Perama, regardless of income criteria.

In Thessaly, former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with farmers and the Mayor of Agia, Antonis Gountaras, to discuss the economic struggles of apple producers. Farmers expressed urgent concerns regarding unpaid compensations for damages caused by last spring's frost, alongside the rising costs of fuel, fertilizers, and labor. The discussions highlighted the precarious economic state of the region's fruit production sector.
