Peregrina Sanctuary in Pontevedra slated for completion by early August

The Xunta de Galicia announced that the restoration of the Sanctuary of the Virgin Peregrina in Pontevedra has entered its final phase and is expected to be finished in early August. More than €300,000 has been spent to remedy humidity‑related damage to the roof and façades. Works include replacing the historic lead covering with a zinc sheet, installing a new metal access walkway, repairing gutters, protecting gargoyles, cleaning stone with micro‑projection, and replacing about 90% of deteriorated carpentry while improving waterproofing throughout the building.

Cultural councilor José López Campos visited the site with regional officials and project managers, noting that scaffolding will be removed by the end of July. A technical hand‑over of the works is scheduled for 4 August, leaving a margin before the traditional pilgrimage festival on 9 August, when the restored sanctuary will be open to locals and visitors.
