Perikatan Nasional activities suspended by Registrar of Societies
The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has issued a show-cause notice to the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN) and ordered an immediate suspension of all its activities nationwide, effective September 23. The RoS clarified that the notice, issued under Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966, is not a final decision to cancel the coalition's registration but a measure to allow PN to respond to a formal complaint.
The complaint was lodged by component party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) regarding a PN meeting held on July 16, 2026, and issues concerning Bersatu's membership status within the coalition. Following the show-cause notice, the RoS invoked Subsection 13(2A) to freeze all coalition operations until further notice.
PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed receipt of both the notice and the suspension order. He stated that the coalition does not agree with the basis of the RoS decision and is taking immediate legal steps to defend its existence and political agenda. Takiyuddin also suggested the possibility of a 'mala fide' agenda or political pressure influencing the decision. In response, PN has issued an immediate ban on members making public statements, except for the Chairman and Secretary-General.
