Perikatan Nasional activity suspension in Malaysia

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) suspended all activities of the Malaysian opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN) on September 23, 2026. The suspension followed a show-cause notice issued after a formal complaint from component party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), which alleged that Bersatu was excluded from a PN leadership meeting in July 2026 and raised questions regarding the party’s membership status within the coalition.

PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan characterized the move as potentially driven by a ‘mala fide’ agenda, noting the timing coincided with the dissolution of the Melaka state assembly. In response to the suspension, the coalition imposed a communication ban on its members, restricting public statements to its Chairman and Secretary-General.

By September 26, Takiyuddin Hassan stated that the RoS suspension has not hindered political negotiations with Barisan Nasional (BN) ahead of the Melaka state election, reporting that discussions regarding a potential coalition have progressed by more than 50 percent. PN leadership expects to resolve the RoS issue within two weeks.

Concurrently, BN Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the coalition intends to finalize its political alliances and logo for the Melaka polls this week following discussions with various party leaders.
