Peristeri: Woman arrested for allegedly poisoning military doctor with atropine

A 41-year-old woman and her parents have been arrested in Peristeri, Greece, following allegations that she systematically attempted to poison her estranged husband, a military doctor, with atropine.

The victim began experiencing unexplained physical symptoms, including tachycardia and blurred vision, following meals as early as February. Suspicion arose after the doctor observed the woman secretly adding a liquid to his drink at a restaurant in the northern suburbs of Athens. To gather evidence, he installed a CCTV system in his home.

On Sunday, October 11, the doctor monitored live footage showing the woman, wearing a mask, gloves, and a cap, entering his kitchen and adding a substance to various food items, including honey, salt, and pepper. The doctor alerted the police and pursued the suspect until she was intercepted by the DIAS motorcycle patrol unit.

Authorities seized 10ml of atropine, medical gloves, a mask, and a syringe from a vehicle where the woman’s parents were waiting. The substance has been sent to the General Chemical State Laboratory for analysis. The woman, described as a former medical professional with a background in epidemiology, faces charges of attempted serious bodily harm, while her parents are accused of complicity.
