Investigation into alleged poisoning of military doctor
Overview
In Peristeri, Greece, a 41-year-old woman and her parents were arrested following allegations that she attempted to systematically poison her estranged husband, a military doctor, with atropine.
The victim reportedly suffered from unexplained symptoms, such as tachycardia, hallucinations, and blurred vision, beginning as early as February. After observing the woman adding a liquid to his drink at a restaurant, the doctor installed a CCTV system. Live footage captured the suspect, wearing a mask and gloves, adding a substance to various food items including honey, salt, pepper, and oats.
Authorities seized 10ml of atropine, a syringe, and other materials from a vehicle where the woman’s parents were waiting. The woman, a former medical professional with a background in epidemiology and pharmacology, faces charges of attempted serious bodily harm, while her parents face accusations of complicity.
New testimony from the doctor indicates the poisoning may have spanned 1.5 years, resulting in multiple hospitalizations, including three stays in psychiatric clinics and one instance requiring intubation. He stated that the symptoms were so unusual that he initially believed he was suffering from a mental illness, as medical examinations failed to identify an organic cause. Additionally, the doctor claims his mother was also poisoned and suffered hallucinations following a misdiagnosis. He noted that the health complications prompted him to request a transfer to a less demanding unit within the Air Force. The family is now seeking ‘exemplary punishment’ for the woman and any accomplices. A court date is scheduled for October 26, 2026.
