Pernambuco celebrates cinema milestones and dance company anniversary

From August 13 to 19, a national circuit showcases four landmark Pernambuco films—"Baile Perfumado" (30 years), "Baixio das Bestas" (20 years), "Cinema, Aspirinas e Urubus" (20 years) and "Boi Neon" (10 years)—in about 30 theatres across Brazil, with debates and social‑ticket policies aimed at broadening access.

On August 8, the Cinema São Luiz in Recife hosts a free videodance program marking the 25th anniversary of the Pernambuco dance company Cia. Etc. The event presents ten video works created since 2009, includes Brazilian Sign Language interpretation, and concludes with a public debate.

Both initiatives highlight the region’s ongoing effort to preserve and promote its audiovisual heritage and contemporary artistic practice.
