Pernambuco government launches technology challenge for disaster monitoring

The Government of Pernambuco has introduced a new challenge through the ‘Cientista Arretado’ Program, aimed at developing scientific and technological solutions to monitor landslide and flood risks. The initiative was presented during ‘Desafios Day,’ organized by the Pernambuco Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SECTI-PE) in partnership with the Pernambuco Foundation for Science and Technology Support (Facepe).

The project addresses specific demands from the State Executive Secretariat for Civil Protection and Defense. It seeks to improve geotechnical and hydrometeorological monitoring by integrating data from various institutions to strengthen risk prevention and support decision-making for public safety agencies.

This initiative is part of ‘Inova Pernambuco,’ a state program involving over R$ 1 billion in investments in science, technology, and innovation. Officials emphasized the importance of validating these new tools during the rainy season to ensure they can effectively assist in disaster response and public service improvement.
