Pernambuco honors cultural icons Mestre Vitalino and Coco Fulô do Barro

Mestre Vitalino (Vitalino Pereira dos Santos), born on 10 July 1909 in Caruaru, Pernambuco, became a leading figure of Brazilian popular ceramics. His clay figures depicting the daily life, folklore and religious traditions of the Sertão elevated Caruaru to an internationally recognised centre of popular pottery.

The music collective Coco Fulô do Barro, founded in Arcoverde, Pernambuco, marked its tenth anniversary in July 2026. The group, created by singer‑composer Marcelo Cavalcanti, promotes the regional Samba de Coco tradition and released three new songs in June 2026. Its lineup includes vocalists, percussionists and dancers, and it has already issued two albums, "Pré‑Urbano" (2021) and "Na Melodia dos Cardeais" (2024). The celebration featured local artists and highlighted the group's role in renewing Pernambuco’s popular culture.
