Pernambuco politics: Expedito Ferreira's state deputy bid and Canal do Sertão hearing

Former Parelhas mayor Dr. Antônio Petronilo (MDB) announced his support for judge Dr. Expedito Ferreira (PSDB) in the race for the Pernambuco state assembly. Ferreira, who highlighted the Seridó region’s economic potential, pledged to improve road infrastructure and promote tourism, stating, “I’m here to serve the State… my office will remain open to the people.”

A public hearing on June 22 will be held in Petrolina to defend the Canal do Sertão project. Authorities, civil‑society groups and local leaders will present the “Carta do Sertão” calling for the canal’s implementation to secure water supplies and boost development in the Araripe and São Francisco basins.
