Pernambuco women seek investigation into Raquel Lyra controversy

A group of women in Petrolina, Pernambuco, has filed a formal request with the Public Ministry to investigate a controversy involving Governor Raquel Lyra. The incident, referred to as the “faz sem ela saber” case, stems from statements attributed to the governor regarding the performance of tubal ligations without the knowledge or consent of women.

The request was led by lace makers from the José and Maria neighborhood following national repercussion of the reports.
