Pernambuco 2026 gubernatorial race and legislative updates

Overview

Following the reelection of Governor Raquel Lyra, the political landscape of the Pernambuco Legislative Assembly (Alepe) has shifted for the upcoming 2027 term. The PSD and PSB have emerged as the two largest blocs in the House, with each party electing nine state deputies.

While the PSD represents the reelected Governor Lyra, the PSB supported the candidacy of João Campos. The PSB saw an increase in representation compared to the 2022 elections, gaining two additional seats. Other notable distributions include the PP with seven deputies, Podemos with six, and the PT with five.

Political scientist Bhreno Vieira noted that this new configuration may provide Governor Lyra with a “more favorable environment for building a legislative majority than her first term,” though he cautioned that party composition does not automatically dictate whether groups will align with the government or the opposition.
