Personalized supplementation and diagnostic importance

Modern health trends are shifting toward personalized medicine, where laboratory diagnostics serve as the foundation for supplementation. Experts warn against the “trap of guesswork,” noting that common symptoms like fatigue, concentration issues, or hair loss can indicate various conditions, including vitamin D deficiency, B12 deficiency, anemia, or thyroid dysfunction. Relying on non-specific symptoms to choose supplements can mask underlying issues or lead to ineffective use of resources.

As the body ages, nutritional needs change. For individuals over 50, increased intake of calcium and vitamin D is recommended for bone health, alongside magnesium and probiotics for gut health. Nutritionist Kara Burnstine emphasizes that supplements should complement a healthy lifestyle rather than replace a nutrient-dense diet.

Data indicates high supplement usage rates. In Poland, the 2023 National Health Test reported that 27 percent of women and 17 percent of men take dietary supplements daily. In the United States, a 2022 survey found that 75 percent of citizens use them regularly.
