Indonesia to maintain subsidized fuel prices through 2026
The Indonesian government has confirmed that subsidized fuel prices will remain unchanged through the end of 2026. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the state budget (APBN) provides a sufficient buffer to absorb global oil price volatility and maintain domestic stability.
While subsidized prices are fixed, non-subsidized fuel rates will continue to fluctuate according to global market trends and the Indonesia Crude Price (ICP). Meanwhile, the government is evaluating potential restrictions on subsidized Pertalite for higher-income households to ensure fiscal efficiency.
In the energy sector, Pertamina reported exceeding its 2026 decarbonization targets by 118 percent during the first semester. Additionally, Pertamina Patra Niaga has increased 3kg LPG supplies in several Sulawesi regions to meet local demand. To ensure transparency and prevent corruption in energy procurement amidst global geopolitical shifts, Pertamina Patra Niaga is coordinating its governance processes with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
In other news, electric motorcycle sales in Indonesia have seen a sharp decline, with only 18,900 units sold through August 2026, attributed to delays in government subsidy disbursements.
