Pertamina Hulu Energi completes 6,000 km seismic survey in Indian Ocean
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) has completed a 6,000 km Offshore 2D SE Java seismic survey in the Indian Ocean. This project is part of the PHE Jambi Merang Certainty Work Program (KKPJM) in open areas covering the offshore waters of six regencies in East Java: Pacitan, Trenggalek, Tulungagung, Blitar, Malang, and Lumajang.
The data acquisition was conducted in two phases due to environmental challenges, including high waves and strong underwater currents. The first phase began in October 2025 and was temporarily paused in December 2025 for safety reasons. The second phase resumed in July 2026 and concluded on August 26, 2026.
Ahmad Najihal Amal, VP of Exploration Technical Excellence & Coordination at PHE, reported that the project was completed with a ‘Zero Accident’ safety record. The survey is considered a significant milestone for PHE’s New Venture program in the South Java Sea region, an area previously viewed as having low prospects due to its location in a fore-arc basin.
