ASEAN energy leaders call for regional collaboration at ASCOPE meeting
During the 51st ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE) Council Meeting in Bali, energy leaders and officials emphasized the need for strategic regional collaboration to strengthen energy resilience across Southeast Asia. The forum focused on optimizing upstream oil and gas assets throughout their entire lifecycle, from maintaining existing field productivity to exploring new resources and managing the decommissioning of aging facilities.
Pertamina CEO Simon Aloysius Mantiri highlighted that regional strength lies in the ability of diverse nations to contribute their unique capacities toward shared goals. Henricus Herwin, ASCOPE Secretary in Charge, noted that ASEAN nations face similar challenges in managing mature fields and attracting investment. He suggested that data exchange and shared expertise through the Exploration and Production Task Force (EPTF) could improve decision-making for all 11 member nations.
Additionally, the International Energy Agency (IEA) noted that mitigating methane emissions and eliminating non-emergency gas flaring could potentially provide significant additional gas supplies to the market, aiding energy security amidst global geopolitical uncertainties.
