Turkey advances major highway and toll system projects

Turkey's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is advancing several major transportation projects. The Antalya-Alanya Highway Project has reached 30% physical completion. The 122-kilometer highway, which includes 5 tunnels and 16 viaducts, is expected to reduce travel time between Antalya and Alanya from 2.5 hours to 36 minutes, potentially saving 23.9 billion lira annually in time and fuel while reducing carbon emissions by 47,000 tons per year.

Additionally, the Ministry is expanding the Free Passage System (SGS) to modernize toll collection. Following the activation of the system at the Akıncı Toll Station, 35 of the 106 stations operated by the General Directorate of Highways have been converted to SGS. The goal is to increase this number to 43 by the end of 2026, allowing vehicles to pass without stopping or slowing down.

Furthermore, preparations are underway for the Pertek Bridge project, which will connect Elazığ and Tunceli over the Euphrates River. The project aims to provide a continuous road connection and is expected to take 5 to 6 years to complete using advanced engineering solutions to account for water depths of up to 100 meters.
