Moquegua water projects benefit 625 farming families

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), through AGRO RURAL, has inaugurated several water harvesting and storage projects in the Moquegua region of Peru. The initiative includes the delivery of eight reservoirs, two qochas (small lagoons), and 0.25 kilometers of adduction channels.

These works, along with the recovery of 200 hectares of degraded grasslands, are designed to strengthen the capture and storage of rainwater for agricultural use. The projects benefit 625 farming families in the provinces of General Sánchez Cerro and Mariscal Nieto. The infrastructure will allow for the storage of over 20,000 m³ of water to support crops such as corn, potatoes, avocado, vegetables, and fruit, as well as livestock and forestry activities.

The total investment for these interventions amounted to S/ 2,223,128. The works are distributed across the Crucero micro-basin in the Ichuña district and the Otora micro-basin in the Torata district.
