Peru advances rural electrification and telecom oversight initiatives
The Ministry of Energy and Mines completed eight rural electrification projects across six regions, extending reliable power to 27,461 people in 258 remote localities. The largest effort expanded distribution networks in Yunguyo District, Puno, benefiting 12,432 residents.
Meanwhile, the telecom regulator OSIPTEL conducted 42 monitoring visits to service centers in Piura and surrounding districts, checking compliance of mobile, fixed‑line, internet and pay‑TV providers. The checks identified contract‑delivery gaps and complaint‑handling issues, and regulators offered guidance to consumers on contract copies and unrecognized phone lines.
