Peru agricultural sector sees massive export growth amid rising demand
Peru's agricultural sector has experienced significant expansion, with agro-exports growing from USD 642 million in 2000 to USD 14,529 million by 2025. This growth has been driven by trade agreements, private investment, and improved water infrastructure, allowing products such as blueberries, grapes, and avocados to reach over 140 international destinations.
Despite this success, the sector faces ongoing challenges including high levels of informality, productivity gaps, and the need for better financing and logistics. Projections from Ceplan, based on OECD and FAO data, indicate a gradual increase in domestic cereal consumption through 2035. Specifically, annual per capita consumption of rice is expected to rise to 65.9 kg, while wheat and corn consumption are also projected to increase.
