Peruvian agro-industrial export growth and innovation
Overview
The 18th edition of Expoalimentaria 2026 generated US$ 1.1 billion in business expectations for the upcoming 12 months, a 21.5% increase over the 2025 edition. According to César Tello Ramírez, president of the Association of Exporters (Adex), the event facilitated a record 3,453 business meetings between producers and international buyers, an 8% increase over the previous year. The fair showcased a diversified range of products, including Andean grains, dairy, and new coffee presentations such as instant mocaccino and caramel coffee.
Following the event, data from Adex indicates a long-term expansion in Peru’s agro-industrial export capacity, with the number of exportable items growing from 448 in 2009 to 543 in 2025. Innovation trends highlighted during the Expoalimentaria contest included processed and value-added products such as prebiotic sodas, chickpea Pop Chips with Maras salt, and vegan mayonnaise. These developments align with broader global shifts toward functional foods and hybrid products that balance health and sensory pleasure.
Recent data shows the scale of Peru’s agricultural expansion, with agro-exports rising from US$ 642 million in 2000 to US$ 14,529 million by 2025. From January to August 2026, agro-exports totaled US$ 8,334 million, a 2.3% increase over the previous year. Non-traditional exports reached US$ 7,559 million, led by avocados, blueberries, and grapes, with blueberries showing 47.9% growth. The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) projects total agro-exports could approach US$ 15,000 million by the end of 2026. However, the sector continues to face challenges such as high informality, productivity gaps, and logistical needs.
