Peru allocates funds for indigenous forest surveillance
The Peruvian Ministry of Environment (Minam) has allocated over S/ 415,000 to strengthen forest surveillance and monitoring in five regions: Madre de Dios, Amazonas, Pasco, Junín, and Loreto.
Equipment was distributed to 30 native communities and three indigenous organizations to enhance field monitoring capabilities. In Madre de Dios, the delivery included motorcycles for the Native Federation of the Madre de Dios River and Tributaries (Fenamad) and the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve Administration Contract Executor (ECA Amarakaeri), alongside multi-rotor drones for Fenamad. Other communities received GPS devices, flashlights, and communication tools.
In Amazonas, communities received various field supplies including mobile phones, GPS, tents, and first aid kits. Similar distributions of tactical flashlights, GPS, and camping gear were carried out in Pasco, Junín, and Loreto to support territorial surveillance activities.
