Peru and Argentina boost port safety inspections and infrastructure upgrades

The Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications, through the National Port Authority, carried out 211 inspections of ports nationwide between January and May 2026. The effort included 170 operational checks, 86 focused on port protection and 84 on security, alongside 41 specialized audits aimed at reinforcing maritime transport and logistics safety.

In Argentina, the National Agency of Ports and Navigation received five proposals to replace the fender system at the Port of Ushuaia. The contract will involve removing existing equipment and installing 75 new fenders, repairing concrete structures, and upgrading CCTV. The works are part of a broader modernization plan that also targets electrical and water services, and aim to accommodate a projected increase in cruise ship arrivals for the 2026/2027 season.
