Peru and Chile telecom regulators report mobile service performance and 5G rollout progress

Peru's telecom regulator Osiptel said the average performance of 4G mobile internet in May rose to 80.29%, with a mean download speed of 12.9 Mbps, latency of 53.6 ms, coverage at 92.4% and packet‑loss at 0.73%. The best regional results were in Callao (83.12%), Tumbes (81.91%) and Lima (81.84%). Operator scores were led by Entel (80.90%), followed by Claro (80.80%), Bitel (79.69%) and Movistar (79.36%).

In Chile, the Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones (Subtel) more than doubled its inspections of network infrastructure and 5G deployment between March and June, conducting over 1,000 checks per month. The agency highlighted infrastructure problems such as power cuts, vandalism and battery theft. It is closely monitoring the 5G rollout by Claro VTR and Wom; after financial setbacks, Wom has committed to complete 90% of the remaining sites by 30 September 2026 and the final 10% by 31 December 2026, under a judicial agreement with the State Defence Council.
