Peru and Panama roll out major laptop initiatives for public schools

In Peru's Tumbes region, 1,575 Chromebooks and 118 ExpertBook laptops were delivered to public schools under the "ConTICgo Aprendo" project, a partnership between the government, integrator Edulink and ASUS Peru financed through the Obras por Impuestos mechanism. The rollout targets more than 1,500 students and school staff, and includes AI‑enhanced educational platforms. Ferruccio Fontanot, Commercial Manager of ASUS Peru, said, "Committed to closing the digital gap, we see technology as a bridge that helps reduce inequalities and bring learning opportunities to more children and adolescents in the regions of the country."

Panama's government announced a $26.6 million purchase of 54,000 AI‑enabled laptops for public‑sector teachers, equipped with offline AI functions from Intel and Microsoft. To date, 1,839 teachers have received devices and half have completed AI training. Education Minister Lucy Molinar stated, "Technology offers a young person, no matter where they are, the possibility to reach where their dreams take them."

Both initiatives aim to narrow the digital divide in education by providing durable, connected devices and training for educators.
