Peru boosts Hass avocado exports despite climate challenges

Peru has emerged as the world's second-largest exporter of avocados in 2025, trailing only Mexico. The country saw a 38% increase in Hass avocado exports during the latest campaign, even though the cultivated surface area grew by only 0.03%. This growth is attributed to improved agricultural productivity, including better irrigation, nutrition, pruning, and sanitary controls.

In 2025, Peru exported 723,000 tons of Hass avocados, a significant rise from 495,000 tons in 2022. While the sector faced a 10% decline in 2024 due to El Niño weather patterns, the industry demonstrated resilience with a strong recovery the following year.

In the mango sector, Best Fruits of Peru is projecting a doubling of sales in the United States, although the El Niño phenomenon continues to limit available volumes. To secure supply amidst lower production, the exporter is purchasing directly from farmers at higher prices to meet firm international demand.
