Peru Congress defines committee members for 2026-2027 period

The Congress of the Republic of Peru has finalized the composition of key legislative bodies for the 2026-2027 annual session period. The Plenary unanimously approved the structure of the Permanent Commission, which will consist of 28 ordinary members plus four ex officio members from the leadership of each chamber.

Additionally, the Bicameral Budget and General Account Commission will be composed of 38 members, split equally between 19 senators and 19 deputies. Seat distribution across these commissions favors parties such as Fuerza Popular, Juntos por el Perú, and Renovación Popular.

In related committee developments, Catherin Palomino of Juntos por el Perú was elected president of the Justice and Human Rights Commission, while Gustavo Segura Figueroa of Renovación Popular was chosen to lead the National Defense and Internal Order Commission. Meanwhile, members of the Constitutional Accusations Commission have called for adherence to due process and objectivity to prevent political persecution during investigations.
