Peru Culture Minister faces nepotism allegations amid new facility launch

Peru's Minister of Culture, Alberto Beingolea Delgado, is facing allegations of political patronage and nepotism following his appointment. Reports suggest he has been placing associates and former members of the Partido Popular Cristiano (PPC) into strategic positions within the Ministry of Culture, the National Library of Peru (BNP), and the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP).

Specific allegations involve the appointment of Lourdes Beatriz Morales Morote and her daughter, Sofía Aguayo Morales, to privileged roles within the Ministry. It is noted that Aguayo Morales, who held a position at the Lima and Callao Urban Transport Authority (ATU) at the time of her meeting with the minister, is reportedly under investigation for crimes against public administration, including bribery and incompatible negotiations.

In a separate development, Minister Beingolea inaugurated the “Letras de la peruanidad” Digital Printing Center at the National Library of Peru. The facility utilizes high-speed laser printing technology intended to expand editorial production and facilitate the dissemination of academic, literary, and patrimonial publications throughout the country.
