Controversies surrounding Peru Culture Minister

Peru’s Minister of Culture, Alberto Beingolea Delgado, has faced scrutiny regarding allegations of political patronage and nepotism. Reports suggest he has appointed associates and former members of the Partido Popular Cristiano (PPC) to strategic roles within the Ministry of Culture, the National Library of Peru, and the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru.

Specific allegations involve the appointment of Lourdes Beatriz Morales Morote and her daughter, Sofía Aguayo Morales, to privileged positions. It was noted that Aguayo Morales is reportedly under investigation for crimes against public administration, including bribery.

In a separate matter, Beingolea addressed rumors regarding the potential transfer of the Lugar de la Memoria, la Tolerancia y la Inclusión Social (LUM) museum to the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. He denied that any official discussions are underway to move the museum’s administration. While ruling out the museum's closure, Beingolea stated that the institution requires an operational review, arguing it has become a “point of disagreement, disunity, and permanent confrontation among Peruvians” rather than a tool for reconciliation.
