Pope Leo XIV prepares South American tour to Argentina and Peru

Pope Leo XIV is preparing for an apostolic tour of South America, including stops in Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. In Argentina, the Pope is scheduled to visit from November 8 to 11, with planned activities in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján. The government of the province of Buenos Aires has declared November 11 an extraordinary holiday to accommodate the expected arrival of up to two million pilgrims in Luján.

The Holy See is expected to announce the definitive itinerary for the Argentine leg of the trip in September. In Córdoba, authorities are preparing for over a million visitors and have organized approximately 10,000 volunteers to assist with logistics and security.

In Peru, the visit is scheduled from November 11 to 16, covering Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa. The Peruvian government has declared the visit a matter of national interest and has authorized the transfer of 63.2 million soles (approximately 18 million USD) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to manage organizational costs. The Peruvian Catholic Church has also launched a national collection to support the event.
