The Peruvian government has declared a 60-day state of emergency in five districts of the Ayacucho region following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Thursday, August 20. The affected areas include the districts of Chumpi, Coracora, Pullo, and Upahuacho in the Parinacochas province, as well as Carapo in the Huanca Sancos province.

The earthquake, which had an epicenter north of Coracora and a depth of 108 kilometers, impacted approximately 500 people and resulted in three injuries. Structural damage was reported in 83 homes, along with damage to roughly 20 schools, health centers, public buildings, and transport routes.

Emergency response efforts will be led by the Ayacucho Regional Government and local municipalities, with technical coordination from the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci). Various ministries, including Health, Education, and Transport, will participate in the recovery. The response will be funded through existing institutional budgets without requiring additional resources from the Public Treasury.
