Peru Defensoría demands transparent probe into teen's death in Manchay police custody
The Defensoría del Pueblo met with the parents of a 17‑year‑old who died after being detained at the Manchay police station in the Pachacámac district. The office called for a rapid, exhaustive and transparent investigation into the June 15 incident, during which the teenager was found in critical condition in a detention room. It formally requested from the Policía Nacional del Perú detailed information including detainee registers, the identities of on‑duty officers, integrity protocols, emergency transport procedures and recordings from surveillance cameras on the days of the event. The Defensoría also asked the Instituto de Medicina Legal for the necropsy report to ensure truth and justice. The institution reaffirmed its commitment to monitor the case with full objectivity and to prevent impunity for alleged mistreatment, corruption and cruel treatment within the police facility.
