Peru economy shows resilience with rising growth projections and strong exports

Peru is demonstrating economic resilience characterized by strong export growth and positive investment outlooks. The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) has maintained its benchmark interest rate at 4.25% for twelve consecutive months. This decision follows an acceleration in inflation, which reached 4.1% year-on-year in July, pushing 12-month inflation expectations to the 3% upper limit of the target range.

Regional exports have seen significant gains, reaching US$ 46.59 billion in the first half of 2026, a 37% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is largely driven by the mining sector, particularly copper and gold, and agro-industrial products. The mining sector alone saw a 56% increase in exports during the first six months of the year.

Moody’s Ratings has raised its 2026 GDP growth projection for Peru to approximately 3.5%, citing a recovery in private investment and resilient domestic consumption. Additionally, corporate sentiment remains optimistic, with EY Perú reporting that 82% of companies plan to implement wage increases in 2026, averaging 5.1%, reflecting growing business confidence.
