Peru electoral court rejects regional candidate lists over quota violations

The Special Electoral Jury (JEE) in the Puno region ruled the party lists of Peru Primero and Pueblo Consciente improper for the upcoming October 4 regional elections. Both lists failed to meet the required quotas for youth and indigenous community representation, and the parties did not provide valid documentation for three councilor candidates, preventing the lists from reaching the minimum of ten regional councilors.

In the La Libertad region, the JEE in Trujillo declared five of the ten submitted lists inadmissible. The affected parties – Acción Popular, Renovación Popular, Juntos por el Perú, Coalición Transformadora Tierra Verde and the Patriotic Party of Peru – did not satisfy mandatory community or youth quota requirements, or in the case of Coalición Transformadora Tierra Verde, failed to nominate any regional councilors. All parties retain the right to appeal the decisions before the National Jury of Elections (JNE).
