Peru expands agro-industrial exports and global food innovation trends emerge

Peru has expanded its range of exportable agro-industrial products from 448 items in 2009 to 543 in 2025, according to the Association of Exporters (ADEX). This growth represents the addition of 95 new products to the country's export basket, driven by increased diversification and product transformation for international markets.

At the Expoalimentaria 2026 innovation contest, several new products were recognized, including chickpea Pop Chips with Maras salt, mango with passion fruit and chocolate, and prebiotic soda. These developments highlight a trend toward more processed and innovative food formats.

In the broader global food sector, SIAL Innovation 2026 has selected 775 products from over 2,750 entries for its 30th anniversary. The selection highlights key industry trends, including hybrid products that combine sensory pleasure with health benefits, such as functional foods and less processed options. Other notable trends include environmental concerns regarding packaging and carbon footprints, as well as the rise of ingredients like collagen and adaptogenic plants.
