Peru expands dengue vaccination campaigns in San Martín and Piura

Health authorities in Peru are expanding dengue vaccination campaigns across several regions to mitigate the impact of the disease.

In the San Martín region, the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) is launching a vaccination drive targeting over 19,000 adolescents aged 10 to 16. The campaign focuses on five priority districts: Rioja, Nueva Cajamarca, Moyobamba, Bellavista, and Juanjuí. The Ministry of Health has allocated an initial batch of 30,000 vaccines for this initiative. The immunization requires two doses administered three months apart to reduce hospitalizations and severe complications.

Simultaneously, in Piura, health officials are reinforcing their strategy following the arrival of a new batch of the Qdenga vaccine. While coverage for adolescents aged 10 to 16 exceeded 85% earlier this year, authorities are now focusing on expanding immunization to young adults aged 17 to 20. Officials are coordinating with educational institutions and parents to increase participation among this older demographic and ensure they complete the two-dose schedule.
