Peru expands international air routes to boost connectivity

Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) is working to expand international and regional air connectivity to decentralize transport and boost tourism. A new direct route between Cusco and São Paulo has been launched, connecting Peru to a major South American aviation hub without requiring a layover in Lima.

Additionally, the MTC is evaluating new connections to Europe and the Middle East. Proposed routes include a connection from the United Arab Emirates via Milan to Lima, which could operate up to seven weekly flights. Officials are also negotiating a direct Rome-Lima route to accommodate the significant flow of travelers between the two nations.

To support these expansions, Peru and Italy are working on an ‘open skies’ Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement aims to increase flight offerings, promote competition, and facilitate the entry of new airlines into the market.
