LATAM Airlines announced plans to launch a direct international flight route between São Paulo, Brazil, and Cusco, Peru, scheduled to begin in late March 2027. Operating four times per week, the service aims to provide Brazilian tourists with direct access to the Cusco region and Machu Picchu, bypassing the need for layovers in Lima.

Following this development, Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) indicated a broader strategy to expand international and regional air connectivity to decentralize transport and boost tourism. Beyond the Cusco-São Paulo route, the MTC is evaluating potential connections to Europe and the Middle East, including proposed routes involving Milan and Rome. To facilitate these expansions, Peru and Italy are working on an ‘open skies’ Memorandum of Understanding to increase flight offerings and promote market competition.
